Community Support
Texas West Animal Health is here to serve as a neighbor, a resource, and a committed partner to the families, farmers, and ranchers who make Palo Pinto County what it is. Giving back to this community is an honor, and we’re proud to share just a few ways we support the people and animals who call it home.
Supporting FFA and 4-H in Palo Pinto County
Some of our favorite clients are the youngest ones—the 4-H members hauling their first show lambs, the FFA students learning to evaluate cattle, and the kids who are just beginning to discover what it means to care for an animal and take responsibility for its health.
The Palo Pinto County Livestock Association hosts the annual county livestock show that serves as a showcase for the hard work of local 4-H and FFA youth—an event that reflects the best of what this community values. We’re glad to support the work they do to keep that tradition alive.
Educating the Agricultural Community
One of the quieter ways we give back is through education—and it’s something we take real pride in. A large portion of our client base consists of hobby farmers and first-generation livestock owners who are still learning the fundamentals of animal husbandry. We don’t take that lightly.
At Texas West Animal Health, client education is built into the way we practice veterinary medicine. Whether we’re on a farm call explaining nutritional concerns in a small cattle herd, walking a new goat owner through a vaccination schedule, or helping someone understand what to look for in a healthy horse, we see every appointment as an opportunity to leave our clients more informed and more confident than when we found them.
We believe that an educated community raises healthier animals—and that the knowledge we share during a single farm visit can have a ripple effect that extends well beyond that one conversation.
Annual Low-Cost Vaccine Day
Keeping pets current on their vaccinations shouldn’t be out of reach for any family. That’s why Texas West Animal Health hosts an annual low-cost vaccine day—a community event designed to make core preventive care accessible to as many pet owners in our area as possible.
Each year, we open our doors to offer essential vaccinations for dogs and cats at a reduced cost, with no appointment necessary. It’s one of the most direct ways we know how to give back to the community that has supported us for so many years—and it’s one of our favorite days on the calendar.
During our vaccine day, we typically offer:
- Core dog vaccines, including rabies and distemper combinations
- Core cat vaccines, including rabies and FVRCP combinations
- Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccination for dogs
- Heartworm testing when available
- Basic parasite prevention products at reduced cost
Keeping your pets current on core vaccines is one of the most important things you can do for their long-term health—and for the health of the animals around them. Learn more about our pet wellness services.
Low-Cost Cat Spay & Neuter Day
Feline overpopulation is a real challenge in rural communities throughout Texas, and it’s one we take seriously here in Palo Pinto County. Uncontrolled cat reproduction contributes to large feral and stray populations, increases the spread of disease, and results in more cats than local resources can support. Spaying and neutering are among the most effective tools available for addressing this problem at the community level—and cost is often the barrier that prevents it from happening.
Texas West Animal Health hosts periodic low-cost cat spay and neuter days specifically to remove that barrier. These events allow cat owners—and community members managing feral colonies—to access affordable sterilization services that benefit individual animals and the broader community alike.
Our low-cost spay and neuter events are open to:
- Owned pet cats whose owners need affordable sterilization options
- Community cats and feral cats being managed through trap-neuter-return (TNR) programs
- Cats from households with multiple unaltered animals
This program reflects something we believe deeply: that veterinary care—especially preventive care—should be as accessible as possible to every member of our community. If you have questions about upcoming low-cost spay and neuter opportunities, give our team a call and we’ll let you know what’s on the schedule.

Serving Hunters and Landowners Through CWD Certification
Texas West Animal Health is certified by the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) to collect postmortem CWD (Chronic Wasting Disease) samples and submit them for testing. Chronic Wasting Disease is a growing concern for landowners, hunters, and wildlife managers throughout our region, and timely, accurate testing is a critical part of protecting deer populations and the hunting economy that supports so many rural communities in Texas.
By offering CWD sampling services, we help landowners and hunters in Palo Pinto County and surrounding areas contribute to the statewide surveillance efforts that protect wild cervid populations for future generations. It’s a practical service—but also a meaningful one. Learn more about our large animal services.
Veterinary Care Without Borders—Dr. Flores’ Mission Work
Great veterinary care shouldn’t stop at the county line—or the country’s border. Dr. Veronica Flores brings that belief with her on veterinary mission trips abroad, volunteering her time and expertise to provide care for animals in underserved communities around the world. These trips are a deeply personal extension of the same values that shape the way Texas West Animal Health operates every day: that animals deserve attentive, compassionate care regardless of where they live or what resources their owners have access to.
Through her mission work, Dr. Flores has had the opportunity to treat animals and support local veterinary capacity in communities where access to care is limited—experiences that continue to inform her practice and deepen her commitment to the animals and people she serves here in Palo Pinto County. We’re proud to have a veterinarian whose dedication to this profession extends well beyond the walls of our clinic.
Caring for the People Behind the Animals
We greet every client who walks through our door with warmth and genuine enthusiasm, because this community has given us so much, and showing up with care and joy every day is one of the simplest ways we know how to give something back.
